Facebook Just Added a New Friend, China

[caption id="attachment_976" align="alignright" width="600" caption="Facebook has new friends, China"][/caption]

The Chinese government has imposed strict regulations when it comes to social media access for its citizens. And if a Chinese citizen a site like Facebook, they are sentenced to death and executed in front of all their friends online, Okay, just kidding, maybe something alittle bit less severe but you get the idea. It's a well-known fact that the Chinese restrict access to just about everything Web including search engines.

So would you be surprised if I told you that the Chinese and Facebook were working together?

Well they are. But why? I give you one guess..

That's right, money. Facebook spent $1.4 billion to outside developers last year and China is it's number one partner. Most of this revolves around game development. The partnerships with the Chinese developers will allow Facebook to find ways to show the possibility of growth and expansion into China for its upcoming initial public offering, even though the Chinese government has restricted access to the site since 2009.

Why "Content is King" and "Plagiarism is a Killer."

interactive-advertising-SEO-imag

I'm sure at one time or another you have heard the overused expression "Content is King" when it comes to search engine optimization and interactive advertising.

Well, I'm here to tell you it's 100% true. Long gone are the days of stealing another site's content, reposting articles or just creating filler for your website.

Some of you might remember the days of clicking on a link or searching for a keyword and finding yourself on the site that had absolutely nothing to do with what you were looking for. And the further you go back, the more severe these instances were. It still happens but, much less and certainly more PG. In fact, there are very obvious signs that these sites are starting to disappear.

Search engines like Google and Bing have spent millions of dollars and man-hours on creating complex algorithms to help them determine who's real and what's what.

Why? Google made $30 billion last year alone off its Internet advertising alone.

There is big money at stake here and one of their most important priorities is delivering clean, relevant information to the user as quickly and efficiently as possible. That's their value. The better they accomplish this the more valuable they become. is it that the more valuable it becomes to it's users. That's why Google is currently trading at over $600 a share!

The search engine industry is competitive so search engines are now severely penalizing websites for stolen content. If your site is flagged, a page can be removed from the search engines or even your entire site.

So why is this information important to everyone?

Because many people have taken content from other locations on the web. Most of them with Harmless intentions.

Here's an example..

Let's say you're a small pastry shop in Miami. And while you were building your website, your web designerasked you for some content for the website because it's very empty. You don't know where to turn to get content and you don't have the time to write it yourself so you grab some great content on baking from a pastry shop located in London England. You assume that, you're never going to compete with them, you think it's only one article and they are almost 4500 miles away, how would this ever affect me negatively. Well in the physical world maybe not but in the Web world absolutely.

The reality is, if you're taking another websites content, there's a very good chance it's already been indexed and cataloged by the search engines. Plus, if you found the website by browsing through the search engines is definitely indexed, catalogued and now considered plagiarized.

So if this sounds like something you or your business is done what do you do? I mean, do you sit down and write five pages of content... Yup! I'm not trying to be a downer but you need fresh content. There is absolutely no advantage to stealing someone else's but there are tools and great interactive agencies that can help you produce quality content that will not only help you in search engines but brand recognition and user involvement.

Here's a Helpful tool -- Plagiarism checker.
Awesome little tool that will help you determine whether or not your content has been plagiarized, or if the content you're out to input is.
